From the established Nissan Leaf to the sleek Tesla Model 3 and the versatile MG ZS EV. We analyze the most popular electric vehicles dominating Sri Lankan highways this year.
The New Kings of the Road
The Sri Lankan automotive landscape is shifting rapidly. While the Nissan Leaf started the revolution, 2026 sees a diverse mix of contenders vying for the top spot.
1. The Undisputed King: Nissan Leaf (Used Market)
Despite being an older model, the Nissan Leaf (ZE1) remains the most traded EV in Sri Lanka. Its affordability (Rs. 4M - 8M range) and widely available spare parts make it the default choice for first-time owners.
2. The Rising Star: MG ZS EV
MG has captured the SUV market. With a range of over 300km and a warranty that owners trust, the ZS EV is seeing massive adoption among upper-middle-class families in Colombo and Gampaha.
3. The Dream Car: Tesla Model 3
Once a rarity, Teslas are becoming a common sight in Cinnamon Gardens and on the Southern Highway. The Supercharging network expansion has made long-distance travel in a Tesla a breeze.
